One of the best features of the park is piped music coming out of speakers all over the place. When we first arrived, the Velvet Underground was playing and I thought, that's pretty good. Turns out you can just plug an ipod in and broadcast it. Genius! The park's cruisy street sculpture vibe was accentuated by the music. I imagined I was in a skate video a bit.
We stayed at Pete's in-laws holiday unit in Torquay, which features a barbecue. There was a heated supermarket session, procuring lots of meat and beer and blokey stuff.
The crew was Pete, Scottie, Jason, myself, and Sean, who had been surfing and skimboarding and such all day, and turned up later. He rides a longboard, which is apparently actually made for riding on snow. Bit of an allrounder.
Here's Scottie acting again, like when he was Richard Knott on Neighbours. This photo tells another story, but Pete was the cook the whole weekend, quite the barbecue valedictorian. He even made these burgers from scratch. Man we ate a lot of meat.
That night, we were introduced to the phenomenon of underdogging. Basically, it involves running under someone on a swing, and is practiced on every Canadian street corner.
Scottie was loving it. He's out of frame in this photo - the top of the frame, that is!
The beach at night sounds so good
We slept (despite Sean's violent snoring) and woke ready to shred. I shared a bed with Scottie, more on that later.
First stop of the day: Airey's Inlet. Terrible park, but beautiful spot and strangely enjoyable.
Lorne park was fun once we got warmed up. Some crazy kids on scooters and one running around aimlessly were a bit stressful. Ever since my accident, I see collisions about to happen everywhere. I think parents should watch their kids a bit more closely at skateparks.
There was a bit of shredding here, as seen in the clip I already made. This wall coming out of the top of the pyramid was really fun, but required manning up to utilise. I didn't really man up, but you get the idea.
This mini ramp was on the way back again. It was quite fun and random, even if we have been spoiled by Coburg's perfection.
A little girl came up to us and started crying, because she was lost and had been fighting with her sister. We found her sister and took them to the shops, where they could find their way to their campsite. It was weird, because I felt like if people saw us walking with two crying little girls through the bush it would look pretty dodgy. Political correctness gone mad.
Last stop of the day was Torquay park, which is quite fun and hilarious in its own way. we stayed there till dark. Look at the guy flipping the bird at his mate. That's a term of endearment amongst young skaters these days, like 'I feel comfortable projecting my alienation and hostility onto you, because I love you'.
The original plan was to hit the town that night, but we were all too knackered from shredding, apart from Sean, who had also been surfing before we woke up that morning. So we played cards for a while.
And watched DVD's. Crazy times!
Sensing had become boring old people, we decided to do something exciting, even though we all really just wanted to go to sleep. The decision was to make midnight pancakes. Scottie assumed a different persona for this excercise, a zombie who looked like the comedian Carl Baron.
Of course, they were cooked on the barbecue. And of course, Pete was the chef. And actually, it was just one big midnight pancake.
We sang a song with the words MIDNIGHT PANCAKES! repeated infinitum.
They were very tasty.
Scottie and I were raising eyebrows on the couch
And our sleeping arrangement did nothing to stop tongues wagging.
Next morning, we put all this in our stomachs, with maple syrup on it!
There were a couple of kids at this park, not enough to notice or stress me out about running into them or anything.
Great trip! Another clip forthcoming.
I've been working in the stooge all week, writing and making jeans.
Scottie came in and took my photo today. Jason was on hand to hold the thing and tell me I looked good.
I forgot to mention the art show downstairs from the stooge, which was great! But now it's gone. Mavie was taking stuff down for Tim and Andy today.
In related news, top bloke, distinguished shredder and cool handball film maker Tim Hillier was hit by a crazed motorist last night while riding his bike. He's ok and resting up at home. Get better Tim! And chill out, motorists.
