Another day, another euro

Photobucket is still maxed out, so I'm trying out the inbuilt photo uploader thing.
After an opening at Tolarno where Olivia works, a few of us had a meal at the Gem in Collingwood and found a great bin full of wood on the way home.

Ever decorative, Ed found a lovely piece of ornate work.

It's all a bit of a blur, but I think Tom was there too.

As were Olivia and Johnnie. Johnnie is an actor, currently rehearsing for an MTC play. He played a monster in Where the Wild Things Are, which is probably the most hotly anticipated film around my studio.

Onto last Friday, and Tom Walsh was resplendent in the stooge, admiring my scissors and showing Sam and I some youtube faves.

After a bit of that, we relocated to the sadly soon to be defunct St. Jeromes.

Where we rediscovered the taste of summer. Those things go down a little too well!

After a few tastes of summer, photos like this seemed like a great idea

Tony, smokin'

Sam, pretending to be smokin'

Then where else but the Carlton, and who else but the Mapstones!

Prior made an appearance. Someone had sunglasses.

Sam and I headed homeward, stopping off at a party in Fitzroy. Oh, the life we lead. Caitlin was sighted:

As was, of course, Tom. Wearing a wig, no less. I think I wore a wig for a few minutes, too.

Safe to say those tastes of summer were quite strong.

The next day, I went skating with Scottie, Marc and Pete. We spent quite a while looking for new shoes for Scottie, then duct tape, around Chapel street. I started getting a bit delirious and not being able to handle it. Scottie said I was being a real dickhead. he was probably right. Look at his shoe!

Those of you who know Scottie would know he has unusually high hand/eye coordination and rarely, if ever, fails physical challenges. But Pete just keeps betting happy meals on ollies with him.

When will he learn?

Later on, I had a lovely pizza dinner with Biscuit, Tom and a nice chap from Germany named Manuel.

They had a great book about all the super heroes ever documented, including all your favourites like Batman, Spiderman and of course, Captain Video. Powers: none.

And Captain Nice!

Then I went to Shona's birthday celebration. I made her a camera case and she lost her camera earlier that day, way to rub it in. Happy birthday, Shona!

There were some fantastic red shoes there,

Belonging to none other than Phoebe.

And on Sunday, I bought a plant called a pregnant onion from the markets. It grows those balls on the otside, then they drop off and grow new ones. It's not an onion, by the way, it just looks like one. I love it!

Photos back to normal next month, I hope!

Shit!

Wow, if you're seeing what I'm seeing, it means the bandwidth on my photos has been exceeded for the month, which is strange and I will attempt to get to the bottom of it as soon as possible. In the meantime, here's a photo of a spaceman:

16 March 2009

Catch up

Deary me, how the weeks roll by. It seems like only yesterday I went to TCB gallery and found what looked like a part of a spaceship crammed into the main room, but was actually a massive kaleidoscope with a camera attached to it.

Photobucket

Pretty incredible. I was transfixed!

Photobucket

Phil Evans was over from Dublin with his good lady Chris. We had many the fun roll and darkly amusing chat about skateboarding and life in general. Well, mainly skateboarding.

Photobucket

We love each other. My skin is brown.

Photobucket

So we were driving to Coburg the other day and I said Phil should screen his new skate film somewhere while he was here, then someone said what about Morgan's night at Radio on Gertrude street, then Morgan said yeah and then we said what about a projector then Morgan said my housemate might be able to get one and then it was done. Then it fell through, then it came together again. So we had the screening and it was rad!

Photobucket

It's called 'the Scrum Tilly Lush' after something Phil's dad would say when he was about to eat something partcularly delicious. Roughly translated, it means Scrumptious. It's all filmed on super-8 film and has parts on skaters in I think 11 different cities, including Nick Jensen, Conhuir Lynn, Wieger Van Wiegywiegyninnin and my personal fave, Al Collins. Pretty epic, a 45 minute super 8 skate film! I enjoyed it, it gave me a feel for the places and made me feel like hitting the road myself. Well done, Phil! Well done also to Morgs for organising the night, which is also on every Wednesday.

Photobucket

Mike and Pete came over from the west to sample the vid, plus the $10 pizza beer combo

Photobucket

I contributed $2 to Callum so he could get a beer. He just got back from the first ever POON run, which is the poor mans hoon run. Callum is the rich mans hoon in my book, a ROON.

Photobucket

On Friday night, quite a crowd gathered spontaneously at the Standard for Parmas and such. Amelia, Edward and Milo were prime instigators.

Photobucket

Milo had a dinosaur book where the dinosaurs were put in modern day settings and there were wordy descriptions of what kind of house they were suited to and stuff like that. It was weird, they seemed to throw in a few fictional dinosaurs in with the real ones. Good book though. By the way, either Milo or Fia took the next few photos.

Photobucket

Things started getting pretty wild, flashes were going off everywhere.

Photobucket

Sofia in her element.

Photobucket

Alana checking Sofia's video work, which she seems to be focussing on now exclusively.

Photobucket

Is that Richard Knott from Neighbours, the guy who stole Tad's identity then died?

Photobucket

Things got quite school formal after Ed and Olivia took the kids away. Girls on one side...

Photobucket

...and boys on the other. Robin was in on both conversations.

Photobucket

Sam was wearing his new pro model blogging sunglasses

Photobucket

Riley also gave them a go.

Photobucket

As did Richard Knott, from Neighbours.

12 March 2009

The week that was

My friend Emma-Jane is the personal assistant for Coldplay! So they were doing concerts and she got me and Olivia free tickets. Thanks EJ!

Photobucket

It was amazing, such a spectacle, especially compared with the usual minimal set-ups I'm used to. Even compared with Leonard Cohen, there I've said it! Many of you may scoff, but you weren't there! It was entertaining, involving and powerful.

Photobucket

Plus, Warnie was a few rows in front of us, by himself, singing along and absent-mindedly tapping his phone on the railing.

Photobucket

The yellow balloons they let out during the song 'yellow' were perhaps a tad literal, but this was awesome.

Photobucket

Aftermath, as we searched for EJ and the after-party

Photobucket

Photobucket

Which turned out to be like a crazy dream! It was the singer Chris Martin's birthday, and he loves australian soaps. So basically the entire cast of neighbours were in attendance. Those of you who know me well will realise how absolutely mind-blowing this was, as I have gauged much of my success in Melbourne by how many neighbours stars I spot. This was too much. Toadie saying I looked like I needed a beer, Dr. Karl working the room, Natalie Imbruglia, the whole bit.

Photobucket

Singing happy birthday. A bunch of radio comedian types were there too. Olivia and I were in hysterics the entire time.

Photobucket

Back to reality, I picked up a load of new jeans which will soon be distributed to stores across this recession-ridden country.

Photobucket

Andrew came over for a week of gallery hopping, bike riding and shredding. And eating.

Photobucket

Quite a grim scene at the Gravis demo. Not much to see at all. As Sam would say, it was a bit shit!

Photobucket

Jake Johnson was the best, and he had a sprained ankle.

Photobucket

Justin Brock was there, shredding. I thought he was Jack Sabback the other night at the Carlton, then apologised for confusing him with the 'other glasses guy'.

Photobucket

Lewis was ripping, of course.

Photobucket

Even with a busted shin.

Photobucket

Dylan Rieder would do well to chill out on the american apparel loyalty card and start skating for fun. In front of adoring fans, that is. I know he's an easy target, but seriously. Not even one trick, just nonchalant preening.

Photobucket

We watched some sick wake boarding, then rode over to...

Photobucket

Brendan's show at Hell gallery in Richmond.

Photobucket

Sam, along with the amazing Baker brothers. We reflected that last time I had met them under similar circumstances, the next day I was hit by a truck. I'm more careful these days.

Photobucket

Sam obligingly stood in front of Chris Lilley so I could get a photo of him not too obviously. I said hello by accident to him, and froze, like all celebrity encounters.

Photobucket

Brendan with his mum and Mel from Utopian slumps. Brendan's show is really funny and has a great energy about it, I recommend it. I think all of it would have sold by now.

Photobucket

Couldn't resist this one

Photobucket

Keeping with the theme of recent weeks, I skated Coburg on Saturday with Chris, Andrew and Joel. This is Joel, front blunting. It was a very pleasant time.

Photobucket

Later, we saw Joel again at a launch for the magazine his sister Erin worked on. He had to cut his shoes down to relieve stress on his ankle. He also had to change flights to relieve stress on his sister.

Photobucket

Being a slam x hype production, the crowd was quite sneaker-focussed.

Photobucket

Across one suburb, quite a different crew were forming for the annual shred for Shane at Fitzroy bowl.

Photobucket

Morgan, Dean and everyone else did a great job organising a fun and respectful gathering. There were a few people being idiots, I nearly got hit in the head by some dickhead throwing them at the bin, but all in all, it was good stuff.

Photobucket

On Sunday night, we went to see Marc's band 'Vessels' play at Ding Dong. This was quite the outing. Marc was great!

Photobucket

Phoebe was an actively attentive fan.

Photobucket

They were supporting a band called 'the Blowwaves', an aggressively graphic gay pop band fronted by the brother from 90s pop sensations the Mavis's. They were really terrible!

Photobucket

On Monday, we went to see Tom at work, where he regaled us with tales of the Schweppes ad he was just in and power moves in the art world. And he wanted me to make him a denim hat. Good old Tom.

Photobucket

Prior, on a detox in order to qualify for a medical trial, put down this serious move specifically for the blog.

Photobucket

That's a healthy respect for the blog!
